I agree to the Members Code of Conduct

All members must agree to abide by the code of conduct which requires them to:

• Know your rights and responsibilities under the current legislation
• Treat other parties fairly and respectfully
  - particularly tenants, real estate agents, body corporates and the Australian Landlords Association (ALA)
• Participate honestly in ALA research, to ensure the ALA
  - has an accurate profile of its members
  - can recognise and acknowledge the reasonable and respectful behaviour of tenants, real estate agents, body corporates, ALA members and other industry participants/stakeholders.

 Ensuring the code of conduct is enforced

• The ALA will provide its members with updates on their rights and responsibilities through the ALA website;
• The ALA will have a disciplinary function that will review and investigate complaints made in writing against individual members in relation to fair and respectful conduct. This function will:
  – Investigate without fear or favour to determine if the member has treated others fairly and reasonably;
  – Provide the member with an opportunity to participate in mediation and reparation as directed by the ALA;
  – Assess if, on balance, the member has met their obligations to treat others fairly and reasonably and either:
  – Retain them as a member, and communicate the outcome to the member and complaintive, or
  – Revoke their membership for a minimum of two years, and communicate the outcome to the member and complaintive.
  – A revoked membership is not refunded.
• The ALA will ensure that the research participation requirements of members are reasonable. (not too often, not too onerous, not too intrusive)
  – Members will be given ample opportunity and reminders to participate.
  – Members will be given warnings about research participation being a condition of membership.
